  • CFTC Education Mission Statement:

    To provide children of all ages access to professional theatre and theatre education through camps, workshops and outreach all including underserved student populations.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • In coordination with the Artistic Director and the Education Committee, develop annual education programs including oversight, record-keeping, and coordination of Summer Drama Camps.

    • Develop an annual budget for Education Programs; Supervise monthly budgetary tracking and reporting, including current financial results and budget performance forecasting.

    • Develop and promote scholarship opportunities for underserved students.

    • Act as a liaison with Fairfax City Parks and Recreation to set up camps through their registration process and coordinate space to hold camps.

    • Together with the Education Committee, lead the interview process and hiring of camp teaching artists and high school counselors. Connect Treasurer to new hires for paperwork processing.

    • Collaborate with Admin and Marketing assistants in a timely manner to provide marketing copy and registration info for our website, social media, and advertisements for all classes and camps.

    • Supervise camp directors in management of materials budget. Assist with day-to-day administrative needs of programs, including space reservations, supply purchases, setup and teardown; Resolve and troubleshoot student, parent and teacher problems or complaints.

    • Work with the Artistic Director to apply for the license to perform any productions in performing camps as applicable.

    • Establish a consistent class schedule of education opportunities in performing, writing, design and other theatrical practices. Work with the Performing Arts Camp Director and Traditional Camp Director to develop course options.

    • Maintain a roster of teaching artists, camp instructors and camp counselors. 

    • Ensure teaching artists and camp staff have completed abuse prevention training and fulfilled the requirements of the City of Fairfax Parks and Rec paperwork/background checks.

    • The Education Chair may teach classes at teaching artist rate as desired through separate contract. 

    • Work with the Education Committee throughout the year in order to plan for the summer (hiring, marketing, etc) and attend CFTC full board meetings to report on progress.

    Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

    • Candidates should have administrative skills to manage complex projects as well as a deep commitment to theatre, education and CFTC’s mission of reaching our diverse community. 

    • Flexibility, vision, energy, a collaborative approach and patience are important qualities. 

    • Strong communication skills are a necessity.

    Some useful specific skills and experience might include:

    Salary & Schedule:

    CFTC will pay $40 per hour for approved hours (25-30 per month) to Contractor via PayPal, credit card, or other electronic payment processor as agreed to by both parties, no later than the 7th of the month, for work delivered and accepted in the previous month. Additional hours may be billed only with prior approval by the CFTC President or Artistic Director.

    CFTC is looking for a Traditional Summer Camp Director to help usher in a new era for our camp programs, combining fun and learning in week-long cohorts. This position will work with our Education Committee and Education Director to create learning objectives that will guide an update to our curriculum and format, giving campers the chance to experience a variety of theatre arts subjects at an age appropriate level with qualified instructors. We're looking for the right person to help us elevate our camps and reach the next level of instruction while maintaining our accessibility and inclusion values for campers of all levels of experience with theatre.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. In coordination with CFTC’s Education Director and Education Committee, the Traditional Camp Director shall staff an Arts Education team composed of fellow teaching artist Instructors and multiple Camp Counselors and junior Counselors who will collaborate to create the CFTC 2025 Traditional Summer Drama Camp experience. The Camp Director will create a curriculum plan to guide the hiring process and determine the weekly camp theme and needs. Each teaching Instructor shall gather supplies and materials, and contribute as equally as possible to their section of the curriculum, and the general happiness and safety of each camper.

    2. Provide a training and collaboration session for all Instructors and Counselors before the first day of camp. At this meeting, the Camp Director will go over camp format, the schedule, and expectations. 

    3. CFTC will hold the 2025 Traditional Summer Camp from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, June 23-August 1, 2025 (dates subject to change) at Katherine Johnson Middle School. There is no camp on July 4th. Performances will take place on Friday afternoons at the end of each week. The Camp Director is expected to be on-site for all training, performances, and strikes/cleanup.

    4. The Camp Director will send an email update for parents to the Education Director on a daily basis. The Camp Director will keep record of incidents, behavior issues, parent communication, building/custodian communication, and any other onsite happenings of note to report to the Education Director. The Camp Director will be responsible for being the first level of response to interpersonal issues between campers and/or staff members, and will report issues to the Education Director and Education committee of the Board for further action.

    Salary and Schedule:

    The pay for this position is $35 per hour. Preparation hours in the weeks before camp begins will be scheduled with approval from CFTC’s Education Director. The Traditional Drama Camp runs for six weeks, Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-3:00 PM, approximately June 23-August 1, 2025 (dates subject to change) at Katherine Johnson MS. There is no camp on July 4th. The Camp Director is not paid for sick days. Pay will be deducted based upon the amount of time missed by the instructor. The Camp Director will arrange for a substitute teacher.

  • Summary:  

    The Producing Director reports to the CFTC Board of Directors through the CFTC Artistic Director and is responsible for overseeing the administrative needs of productions in a fiscally responsible manner. This position requires roughly 25-30 hours per month in a flexible schedule and can be completed in a hybrid of remote and onsite work depending on the stage of production.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

    Works with the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director to fulfill the mission and vision of the City of Fairfax Theatre Company.  Provides direction to each show’s Producers in the successful organization of production needs for CFTC performances including, but not limited to: main stage productions, Spotlight on the Arts Festival events, and the annual Cabaret fundraiser performance.

    • Booking audition, rehearsal, and performance spaces with partners such as Parks and Rec and Katherine Johnson MS in conjunction with the Producers and Directors’ desired schedule. Acts as the main point of contact with partners for questions, etc.

    • Working with Director of Education to share use of Katherine Johnson MS in the summer to consider both camp and musical production needs.

    • Working with the Artistic Director, Producers, and Directors to hire production roles and assign/track completion of paperwork for design team members and cast to include contracts, prevention of misconduct training, fee payments, and other administrative paperwork as needed.

    • Coordinate with show Producers to ensure the timely completion of tasks on the Producer checklist.

    • Ensure Producers have the CFTC template documents for audition forms, press releases, playbills, calendars, budget, reimbursement, etc., and track completion of paperwork.

    • Approve design team reimbursements and keep track of production budget with Admin Assistant.

    • Coordinate purchasing and check requests with Admin Assistant for the productions such as rental payments, online purchases, and stipend payments.

    • Coordinate load in/strike logistics for checking out/transporting CFTC equipment and rentals. Communicate volunteer needs with the Volunteer Chair to create sign ups.

    • Attend first rehearsal, load in, strike, and production meetings for all productions.

    • Report on production progress and needs at monthly board meetings. Communicate more urgent issues as they occur with Board executive officers and Artistic Director.

    • Work with Marketing team to get show information on the CFTC website, tickets on sale, reviewers invited, etc. Act as point of contact for purchasing ads with DC Metro Arts, MD Theatre Guide, and others.

    • Undertake special projects and assignments as needed. 

    Education and/or Experience:

    1-2 years of administrative experience, preferably in producing or project management. Theatre production experience preferred. Proficiency with applications in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, video conferencing, email and internet. Responsive to emails and phone calls while acting as liaison for CFTC with space rental partners. Ability to effectively present information to participants and/or the Board of Directors. Exhibit excellent interpersonal leadership, and communications (both written and oral) skills. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and passion. 

    Physical Demands: Must be able to complete work on your own computer and phone. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet for long periods. Must have reliable transportation.

    Compensation: This is a contract role for a period of 1 year (renewable) with a stipend of $1,000 per month.
