High School and College Technical Theatre Internships
Description
The City of Fairfax Theatre Company Technical Theatre Internship for students in High School or College advances the Company’s mission “to enrich, educate and connect our community” through educational and cultural experiences during our summer musical season.
Intern Duties
Assist with various aspects of the technical side of theater.
Participate actively in running and preparing for the CFTC Summer Musical at Lanier Middle School. Work in one or more of the following areas: stage management, set construction, sound, lighting, props & costumes.
Professional Development Opportunities
The Technical Intern will have the opportunity to increase their basic knowledge of the technical theater work through leadership roles and active participation in the technical process, as well as insight into the administrative side of CFTC.
Increased experience in opportunities including Sound and Lighting Design, Live Mixing Audio (theatrical/concert), QLab, SFX, Isadora, Basic Carpentry, and Costuming (technologies, wardrobe and design).
Qualifications
At least one year of Technical Theater classes at an High School or College level.
Should be flexible, creative, a team player, reliable, and have a good work ethic.
Display a willingness to assist in load in/out, as artist liaison, and setup/tear down stage and seating on a daily basis.
Recommendation from a technical theatre teacher or professor.
Duration
Summer (late June-July)
Time Commitment
40 hour minimum
Schedule
Availability during the day for intense build days, availability for evening rehearsals and shows.

Compensation
All internships are unpaid and housing is not provided.
