Set Designers & Construction
Work to design and build sets for specific projects. Help the director bring their vision to life on stage. General woodworking skills and construction skills can be utilized in a team environment. Responsible for the implementation, loading-in, maintenance, and striking of the scenic design.

Responsible for the discovery, creation, upkeep, repair, cleaning, and running of all props during the run of a particular production.

Stage Manager & Assistant Stage Managers
Coordinate all aspects of a theatre company to ensure the successful delivery of the performance. This involves managing rehearsals, actors, technicians, props and costume fittings, as well as liaising with front of house staff and the director.

Responsible for implementing any scene changes during performance including but not limited to set pieces, set dressing, furniture, etc. and for any flying and some costume changes.

Knowledge and expertise in theatrical lighting. Responsible for the creation of the lighting design for a given production. Working in concert with Artistic Staff and Production Personnel to create a unified production product.

Skills with sound design require prior knowledge of audio equipment, and the ability to be flexible and multitask during a live production.

Costume Designers & Costume Assistants
Costume designers create the look of each character by designing clothes and accessories the actors will wear in performance. Involves shopping, thrifting, some sewing skills and a general availability during the show process.

Producers
In conjunction with the Board of Directors for the City of Fairfax Theatre Company, the producer is responsible for budgeting, scheduling work, and coordinating the various production departments. The Producer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the production are completed within budget, according to the designer's and director's wishes, and in time for the first public performance.

Music Directors & Orchestra Members
A musical director is a person responsible for the all the vocal and instrumental components within a musical or play. Auditions musicians, consults with the theatre director, and is responsible for all musical components of the musical. This person is responsible for the overall quality and integrity of all musical aspects. Orchestral musicians of various instrumentation are needed for musicals, and underscoring music for some plays.

Knowledge of musical theatre choreography styles. Direct rehearsals to instruct dancers in how to use dance steps, and in techniques to achieve desired effects.

During shows, responsible for supervising ushers, seating patrons as needed and cleaning the house before and after performances. Trains and/or assists any house personnel.

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company is a non-profit community theatre located in Fairfax, VA. Founded in 2009, the theatre’s mission focuses on enriching, educating and connecting the community through a variety of theatre programming for all ages.
Our season includes three main stage performances, as well as a vibrant summer drama camp for young people, plus workshops and day camps throughout the year.
CFTC is committed to offering programs that uplift and inspire its community through the arts, as well as contributing to the diverse and dynamic culture of arts in the area.
